Ralph Casey started his
horseshoeing school in 1988. Soon after, in 1989 he saw a
need for providing more education for horse owners about the
role the farrier plays in the overall health and care of the
horse.
He and seven others formed the Brotherhood of Working Farriers
Association, Inc, a non-profit organization which has a membership
of over 6,000 farriers and horse owners. He uses modern and
technical methods of teaching. He uses his technical inventions
to enhance his teaching methods. He founded the first BWFA
Farrier Research Laboratory I in Georgia. Three more labs
are operating in the United States today.
Casey constructed the first National Farrier Research Center
in Georgia. This facility offers on-going research of techniques
of shoeing and corrective shoeing by farriers. It also offers
a continuing education program for farriers at all levels
in order to gain degrees and diplomas in Farrier Science.
The horses brought to the Center by their owners receive excellent
care by professionals. Casey is a Master Farrier, Master Educator,
1992 inductee into the BWFA Farriers Hall of Fame, Executive
